0107web.jpgBoarding at Wells is offered from the age of 7. In the Junior School, boarders are welcomed into the warm, open atmosphere of a family-style house set within its own gardens and close to the main school campus. Resident House Parents look after the boys and girls, supported by an assistant, a team of house tutors and a matron.

In the Senior School, life centres on the beautiful mediaeval and 18th century accommodation houses that line The Liberty. Each House is the focal point for group identity, friendship and relaxation, with opportunities for healthy rivalries between Houses in sport, drama and academic achievement.

Flexi-boarding is available, from one night through to weekly or even weekend boarding. Many pupils and parents find this an extremely useful option, as it allows pupils the chance to participate in after-school clubs as well as keeping up with prep and avoiding a late journey home.

There is plenty to do after school and at weekends , for boarders and day pupils who will find indoor, outdoor and musical activities to suit wide-ranging interests. Pupils can also enjoy the benefits of living in the heart of a vibrant market town, with its diversity of artistic and cultural events.

Houses at Wells consist of between 20 and 30 boarding pupils, reinforcing the greatly cherished family atmosphere. We seek to preserve it by striking the right balances, by emphasis on personal responsibility and giving freedom within sensible constraints. The boarding family is complemented and strengthened by the day members of houses; these are thus vibrant and exciting communities for day and boarding pupils alike, with a secure and intimate boarding ambience.
