_mg_6563a.jpgWells Cathedral School is unique in Britain, not only in the range of music it offers but also in the integration of young musicians into the life and curriculum of the wider school. Musicians are therefore able to develop their talents within a normal school environment and achieve great success as performers and in public examinations.

Considerable emphasis is placed on individual practice as well as coaching in a wide variety of chamber music groups and ensembles. For 200 pupils, music is their main focus and excellence is achieved through expert tuition, musical opportunities and being part of a dynamic environment.

There are regular visits by distinguished artists who give consultation lessons and masterclasses. The Symphony Orchestra rehearses weekly but also benefits from intensive orchestral courses under a professional conductor three times a year.

One cannot fail to be impressed by the Wells Music department.  There is such variety and yet the opportunity to specialise and prepare for the challenge of a career in music.  I would encourage any parent to choose Wells Cathedral School for their talented musical son or daughter.

The school has a purpose built Music Technology block and a World Music room equipped with a wide range of instruments including a Javanese Gamelan.

Wells is one of the five organisations of the South West Music School, a unique partnership which is part of a national network of Centres for Advanced Training supported by the DCSF Music and Dance Scheme.

Talented children need the stimulus and friendship of other gifted children and access to specialist teachers. Wells offers all this and much more.
